History of Citizens Advice Newport

Citizens Advice Newport has been a vital source of support for the local community since it was first established in 1939. It was one of the original 200 Citizens Advice bureaux set up on 4 September 1939 — just one day after Britain entered the Second World War. These early offices were created to help civilians deal with wartime challenges such as lost ration books, housing problems, evacuation issues, and tracing missing relatives.

Since those early days, Citizens Advice Newport has continued to evolve in response to the needs of local people.

Today, it operates as an independent charity offering free, confidential, and impartial advice on a wide range of issues including benefits, debt, housing, employment, and family matters.
